At 20 weeks pregnant we found out that Ethan had a congenital heart defect. We were told that it was not good but we were given hope that there would be an operation that would give him a reasonable quality of life. At this point in the pregnancy we were given all of our options which was extremely upsetting but there was no doubt in either of our minds that we were having this baby no matter what. There was always hope. Unfortunately, when Ethan was taken away for tests after he was born, results showed his heart was worse than scans had originally proved to show. No operation would help Ethan, and without the medication they were giving him, his heart would shut down and the medication wasn't something that he could take for a prolonged time. What had been the best day of my life became one of the worst within a matter of hours.
